Workshops

We host a variety of day workshops where participants get the chance to be crafty for the day! If you have ever wanted to learn a new skill in an informal, fun environment then come along and join us.

Felting Workshop

Felt is the oldest form of fabric. It consists of layers of fibre that have been agitated and compressed until the fibres lock together forming a mat. The fibre used to create this versatile fabric is an animal’s fleece and what finer animal than the Alpaca! Alpacas are fascinating, inquisitive and intelligent creatures that create the most wonderful fleece.

At this workshop you will gain an understanding of the process that is undertaken to prepare a raw fleece to create high quality garments and accessories… and then the real fun begins!

You will learn the basics of felting, experimenting with techniques and exploring the use of colour, creating a scarf in the morning and venturing towards making a clutch bag in the afternoon. Felting is a fascinating process and this workshop provides a day of creativity with results that will leave you wondering why you havent tried it before! You are sure to have a fun filled day.

Your workshop will run from 10am until 4pm with a break for lunch part way through, and time for cake in the afternoon too! Places are limited so it is wise to book well in advance.

Date:   Sunday 2nd June 2013
Time:  10.00am – 4.00pm
Price:  £60.00 (includes lunch and materials)

Silver Jewellery Workshop

This fun and friendly workshop in copper and silver jewellery will show you the basic techniques required to make your own unique earrings or pendant. The workshop starts at 10am, finishing at 4pm, with a half hour lunch break. Your tutor will guide you through the stages needed to create your design, giving demonstrations and advice throughout the session. Techniques covered will include saw-piercing, texturing, soldering, doming and polishing. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience who wish to develop their skills further.

The tutor will supply the necessary tools and equipment, but would appreciate all students providing their own protective aprons, sketchbooks/paper and pens for the day. If you already have hand tools such as pliers then you are welcome to bring these too. The cost of the workshop includes the materials/silver to create either earrings or a pendant but additional silver wire, sheet, and fitment supplies will be available for you to purchase on the day should you wish to make more!

Your tutor for the day will be Gemma, an experienced jewellery tutor, teaching regular evening class sessions and recreational courses alongside independent workshops. Gemma trained at Middlesex University as a jewellery designer and completed a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector in 2012. She also exhibits and sells her own jewellery.

We are very excited about hosting this workshop and hope you will join us.
